Scars
A cedar tree displays the scars of the fire that killed it in Wilson Lake's Minooka Park. Fire is a key element of prairie preservation because it kills invasive cedar trees, that otherwise would command control of the grassland. Years ago, lightning and Native Americans set the fires; today the task is done by conservationists.
